Situated among rolling hills, Chatham is also known for its beautiful landscapes with tree-lined streets and plenty of green spaces. The downtown area is a great place to shop and is home to various boutiques and specialty stores.  Quartet is one such boutique that carries fine home furnishings, personal accessories, gifts, jewelry, novelty apparel, and baby gifts. The Mall at Short Hills is a premier shopping destination featuring over 150 stores, including Bloomingdale's, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Cartier.

 

Chatham residents enjoy a variety of entertainment options.  Residents can take in shows at the school district's performing arts center, which features plays and concerts. The Chatham Hickory Cinema is an independently-owned movie theater featuring a selection of new and classic films. 

 

Things to Do

There are several parks with playgrounds, basketball courts, and other recreational activities. The Great Swamp Education Center has two miles of walking trails and a boardwalk to enjoy views of the swamp, marsh, meadow, pond, and wildlife. In addition, The Visitors Center has many interactive and educational exhibits about the area's natural history. And for golf lovers, they can choose from a variety of courses, all within 20 miles.

 

Chatham has a variety of special events to mark the holidays throughout the year. The popular Fishawak Festival is a celebration of the town's fishing heritage. The event features live music performances, art exhibits, food vendors, and family-friendly activities. The Borough celebrates the 4th of July with a traditional parade with floats, bands, and other performers, ending with a spectacular fireworks show.

 

The Chatham Borough Farmers Market takes place every Saturday from June through November.  The market features fresh produce, baked goods, meats, and cheeses from local farmers. There is also live music and a food court featuring local restaurants.
